šŸ§˜ā€ā™‚ļø ā›°ļø Sometimes self-care looks like a personal retreat in the mountains above Monterey Bay. Not a vacation - a RETREAT. This past weekend, I took a break in a way that I haven't for quite some time. One for me. One for my own wellbeing.

Not a vacation - a RETREAT

As someone who teaches about burnout prevention and nervous system regulation, one would think this would be a regular occurrence. But life gets busy and other travel, work, and projects have taken priority. It's been years since I've given myself this kind of a break. And I really really needed it.

šŸ“‰ Here on the other side, I am reminded that intentional time away from the hustle and grind is a necessity. Within a few days, I feel more relaxed, clearer in my mind, and my heart feels more open. It took the intensity of my life from 8.5/10 down to 3/10. Not a complete fix, but an important shift. One that sets the stage and tone for everything coming up in my life (i.e. - a busy Fall season).

I feel more relaxed, clearer in my mind, and my heart feels more open.

In my talks, Busting Burnout and Mental Wellbeing & Self Care, I highlight the importance of this shift and how it can affect all areas of one's life. Not everyone can escape to the mountains, but we all can work towards creating a life that is slightly more spacious. Often we convince ourselves that our "elective obligations" and our actual obligations take more precedent than our actual health. We need to rewrite this story.

šŸ“ In what ways can you rewrite your story. What is an actual obligation versus one that you created for yourself and maybe could be adjusted? The journey to prevent burnout starts right now.

ā›°ļø For those curious, I spent three nights at the yoga retreat center Mount Madonna Center, just south of Santa Cruz in Monterey Bay, California. They offer personal retreats as well as hosted retreats. I spent my days hiking the property, attending yoga classes, meditating, and, of course, resting deeply. I highly recommend.
